Get 3 hours of free electricity every day with Solar Sharer (Ergon Tariff 12F)
In breaking news for all Ergon Customers, you can now sign up for three hours of free power everyday from 11am to 2pm with the new Ergon Tariff 12F.
This has been introduced by the government to soak up all the abundance of excess solar during the middle of the day, and to make Electricity Cheaper for everyone by stopping power prices dropping into the negative and causing significant strain on the network operators.
The Solar Sharer tariff 12F is available to all Ergon Customers whether you have solar or not and is particularly attractive if you can move loads to 11am to 2pm to take full advantage. There is also very cheap power of only 8 cents a kWh from 2pm to 4pm.
Here is how you can take full advantage:
- Charge up a Home Battery for Free to then also give your home free electricity for the rest of the day and night.
- Charge up your Electric Car for Free (especially on weekends)
- Move your Pool Pump Timer from 11am to 2pm. (Remove from tariff 33)
- Put a timer on your Hot Water System from 11am to 2pm (Remove from tariff 33)
- Set the timer on your Dishwasher to start at 12pm
- Set the timer on your Washing Machine to start at 1pm.
- Cooling your home for free from 11am to 2pm.
- Sunday Roast Lunch has just become free to cook!
(please be careful and do not run everything at the same time and overload your switchboard)
To make the switch you must have an Ergon Smart Meter, which most people already have. However, this Tariff 12F is also a Time of Use Tariff and you still need to be smart in your energy usage.

Solar Feed in Tariffs
For our Solar Customers, you still get Solar Feed in Tariff for your excess Solar that you send back to the grid.
Who is this suited for
This is obviously very good for people who are thinking of getting a Home Battery or already having a Home Battery. As this new 3 hour of free Power can charge your battery with or without solar, and especially on those rainy days when the sun is not out.
- Amazing for people who have an Electric Vehicle or are thinking of getting one.
- Excellent for people who have retired, work from home and for everyone on weekends to use free power.
- Great for people who have Gas Cooking at night and don’t use a lot of electricity from 6pm to 9pm.
You just need to be careful during your peak usage times from 4pm to 9pm. The average home can use up to 10 – 15 kWh’s during this period. So, this could cost you $6 – $7 a day if you are not careful and don’t have a home battery to get you through this period.
