John, Rosemarie, Paul and Jody Horan together with long term employees James and April Rogers (of Mackay) have joined forces. With their team they are now operating from their new business in Belgian Gardens Townsville, and in Mackay. This team have combined knowledge and skills in the Solar & Electrical Business of more than 60 years.
In 2004, John and Rosemarie Horan began their electrical contracting business in Parry Street, Belgian Gardens. Over the next 20 years Horan & Bird has been a household name that became one of the largest solar companies in Australia with over 30,000 customers. The Solar Business won the prestigious award of 2012 Australian Small Business of The Year and has won Master Electricians and Solar Business of the Year five times.
In 2015 Australia’s largest energy provider, Origin Energy, bought Horan & Bird to break into the Queensland solar industry. Within 2 years, Origin Energy then became the largest commercial solar business in Australia with Horan & Bird. During Covid in 2021, Origin Energy decided to move away from solar and sold Horan & Bird to a Sydney company Juice Energy.
In a huge shock to local staff Juice Energy went into administration and put Horan & Bird Energy Pty Ltd into liquidation on June 18th 2024. John and his family were able to purchase the H&B assets and IP to keep the Horan & Bird name going along with servicing their 20 years of customers. The family-owned business is back to basics, delivering the service and quality that held them in good stead for many years.
John Horan, is the former National President and current Director of Master Electrician’s Australia and Board Member of Solar Accreditation Australia. He has employed and trained many of the qualified electricians and solar installers, which Horan & Bird Solar will still use today.
Horan & Bird Solar will continue to service Queensland and in particular the North Queensland community which has supported the family-owned business owners for more than 20 years.
