The Queensland Government has just announced their commitment to Net Zero and greener transport through the Queensland’s Zero Emission Vehicle Strategy 2022-2032 and the first Zero Emission Vehicle Action Plan 2022-2024.
With plans to make zero emission vehicles more affordable, the Queensland Government is doing this by reducing the upfront costs for Queenslanders.
Buyers of all new zero emission vehicles purchased under the value of $58,000 on or after 16 March 2022 will receive a $3,000 grant and continue to receive existing benefits like discounted vehicle registration and registration duty costs.
The strategy also involves the exploration for EV charging stations with a $10 million co-fund that will support public charging options, in partnership with local government and private industry.
The government has set out goals for these strategies including:
- 50% of new light vehicle sales to be zero emissions by 2030, moving to 100% by 2036
- Every new TransLink-funded bus will be zero emissions from 2025 in South-East Queensland and from 2025-30 across regional Queensland.
This is a fantastic initiative, especially during a time when fuel prices have risen to over $2, to get Queenslanders to move to Renewable Energy options and consider electric vehicles.
