We just wanted to let you know about an important change that took effect on July 1st 2025.
All Ergon Energy residential customers have now been AUTOMATICALLY switched from the flat-rate Tariff 11 to a Time of Use tariff (Tariff 12D).
What does this mean for you?
Instead of paying a consistent $0.33 per kWh, your electricity will now be charged at different rates depending on the time of day.
Here’s the concern:
Most households use the bulk of their electricity between 4pm and 9pm – when we get home, cook dinner, take showers, run the air-conditioning, and unwind in front of the TV.
Under the new tariff, usage during this peak period will now be charged at a much higher rate – $0.457 per kWh. That’s a significant increase.
Tariff 12D ⬇️
A time of use tariff designed to help you save during the day and nighttime off-peak periods. All rates include GST.
Peak Period: 4pm to 9pm daily (45.7 cents) (instead of Tariff 11, 33 cents)
Night (shoulder) Period: 9pm to 11am daily
Day (off peak) Period: 11am to 4pm daily
From 1 July 2025 – Current Rate | COST |
Night (shoulder) Usage per kWh | $0.28035 |
Peak Usage per kWh | $0.45712 |
Day (off peak) Usage per kWh | $0.22680 |
Supply Charge per day | $1.48834 |
There has never been a better time to take advantage of the new Government Battery Rebate – offering up to $17,500 for eligible households.
Why is this important?
With electricity rates now surging during the peak hours of 4pm–9pm, having a home battery allows you to store solar energy during the day and use it when power is most expensive. This can significantly reduce your bills and protect you from rising energy costs.
When you get a Home Battery you can then Switch to ⬇️
